As I embark on this blogging journey, I feel it's important to share a bit more about my background and my passion for photography. My name is Mark Peiffer. My journey began in high school, where I first picked up a camera and fell in love with capturing moments. When asked about my future, I boldly declared that I envisioned myself selling my artistic creations for a million dollars each - a dream that, while ambitious, has evolved over the years. Fast forward to today, and although I've surpassed that ten-year mark, I firmly believe it's never too late to pursue your passions, which is why I've created this space. Life took me away from photography for a while, as the cost of equipment was daunting, especially back when digital cameras were just emerging and still out of reach for many (including me). I eventually sold my gear and stepped back from the art I delighted in. However, the advent of digital photography reignited my enthusiasm; while the gear can still be pricey, the freedom to shoot without hesitation has transformed my approach. Over the past 15 years, I've immersed myself in learning the intricacies of photography and editing, gradually developing “my own style”, I suppose. I'm thrilled to share this journey with you and explore the world through my lens. My goal for this website is not to make “a million dollars," but that people would enjoy the photos I have taken of God’s creation and let people know about Jesus Christ.
Traveling has always been a passion for my wife and me, and we find that cruises offer the perfect way to explore new places. There's something magical about going to sleep in one place and waking up to a new city, ready for adventure. Our journeys have taken us to remarkable countries where we’ve walked the same paths as Jesus' disciples, an experience that left us in awe. While every destination has its unique charm, my heart is particularly drawn to Norway with its breathtaking fjords, the rich history and art of Italy, the stunning landscapes of Scotland, and the diverse beauty of the USA. Each country we've visited has been a treasure trove of photo opportunities, capturing memories we will cherish forever. Traveling not only enriches our lives but also deepens our appreciation for the world around us.
Since I retired last year, I’ve embraced my morning walks as a valued routine —an opportunity to stay active and discover photo-worthy moments that capture the beauty of the world around me. Each step leads me into the embrace of nature, where I find myself gripped in the vibrant splendor of God’s creation. Have you ever paused to truly observe it? I mean, really “look”, as if through the eyes of a child, filled with wonder and an insatiable curiosity. It’s in those quiet moments that I feel as though I’m seeing the world anew, each leaf shimmering with dew, each bird’s song echoing like sweet music in my ears. These views and sounds merge harmoniously and I find myself swept away in a profound sense of worship. It’s a reminder of all that God has generously created for us to enjoy. With every inhale of fresh morning air and every glance at the unfolding scenery, I offer a heartfelt 'Thank you' for the simple yet overwhelming gifts God has to offer. Each walk becomes not just an exercise for the body, but a nourishing salve for the soul, rekindling my appreciation for the beauty of God’s creation. Psalms 19:1 says, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. This verse reminds us that the vast heavens and the intricate sky are continuous testimonies to His glory. This declaration stirs within us a thirst to understand more about the God who orchestrates such beauty. Reading His Word becomes a vital means of discovering the depths of His character and His profound love for us.
As we explore Scripture, we uncover truths that reveal not only who God is but also why He cares intimately for each of us. Who is He, why does He care about me, and foremost for me, why did He send His Son to die and rise again for me? I know who I am and how I have lived my life in the past and still make mistakes today, yet He still came and gave Himself up for me.
As Vizzini from the Princess Bride said, Inconceivable!
His love is unconditional and boundless. In choosing to sacrifice Himself for our sake, Christ bridged the gap between our flawed humanity and God’s perfection, demonstrating divine love that transcends all understanding. The acknowledgment that, in spite of our imperfections, we are cherished and redeemed by such a powerful grace invites us to live with a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude. Each decision to seek God through His Word not only enhances our understanding of Him but also strengthens our relationship with Him, reminding us that we are deeply valued and loved. The journey of faith is ongoing, and the more we engage with the Scriptures, the clearer we see the splendor of His handiwork in both creation and our lives.
Lyrics to How Many Kings by Downhere
How many Kings step down from their thrones?
How many Lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart?
How many Fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me.
Until next time, praise Him for ALL He has done and continues to do!
Take care,
Mark
