Mother’s Day 2025
How many of you can proudly declare with me the sentiment, "My mother was truly the greatest mother to have ever graced this earth"? For those fortunate enough to still have their mothers by their side, take a moment to express your gratitude and admiration for all that she does. And for those of us who have lost our mothers, hold tight to the precious memories of her love and sacrifices.
Being a mother is undeniably the most challenging role one can undertake. A mother is always on call, expected to possess knowledge on a vast array of subjects, and must have a memory capable of retaining every detail. The dedication and selflessness required of a mother is unparalleled. This is from my perspective, and since I am not a mother, I'll pass the mic to my friend who is a seasoned mom to share her perspective on what motherhood truly entails. Let's hear it straight from the source!
“Mother’s Day feels like a well-earned gold star. Being a mom isn’t always pretty—the diaper blowouts, late night vomits, tears, endless sporting events, and those last minute school projects that nearly broke me! But this year, especially with my kids stepping into their next chapters, I feel a mix of pride and nostalgia. And honestly, I wouldn’t trade those hectic days for anything. Well… maybe a solo vacation. With room service. And absolutely no laundry. 😂 For me, Mother’s Day is a time to be grateful. I’m thankful to God for blessing me with the chaos, the laughter, the lessons, and the love that made me not just a mom, but their mom.”
Ashley B, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on being a mother!
Around the globe, on Mother's Day, countless individuals will come together in churches, homes, and restaurants to honor the mothers who have impacted their lives. Just like during other holiday seasons, millions of dollars will be spent on flowers, candy, and gifts as a heartfelt gesture to show appreciation for these special women.
But how many will truly consider what the Lord has to say about honoring our mothers? What are the consequences of neglecting this important commandment?
In Exodus 20:12, the commandment begins with "Honor thy father and thy mother," revealing a promise that comes with honoring them. Ephesians 6:2 tells us that this is the first commandment to come with a promise of long life. "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise) that it may be well with thee, and thou may live long on the earth." - Ephesians 6:1-3 "Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." - Exodus 21:12
These verses clearly emphasize the spiritual and physical consequences of honoring or dishonoring our parents. Exodus 21:12 reminds us that honoring our mothers is not just a one-day event, but a daily practice. God recognizes the significance of honoring our mothers, and even on the cross, Jesus entrusted this responsibility to one of His beloved disciples. Honor your mother every day, and may you be blessed with a long and fulfilling life.
Oftentimes, the bond between mothers and their children is marred by feelings of anger, disappointment, and bitterness. Perhaps your mother was absent when you needed her most, failed to shield you from harm, or constantly made you feel inadequate. You may have struggled to meet her expectations, always falling short of her vision for you. However, despite her flaws, it is crucial to heed God's commandment to honor your mother.
It can be beneficial to delve into the root causes of your mother's actions. We inhabit a world tainted by sin, where Satan thrives on sowing discord and fostering isolation to sabotage relationships and hinder our connection with our Heavenly Father. Consider the ways in which Satan exerts influence over our lives and the lives of our mothers in this fallen world. By understanding the forces at play, we can begin to unravel the complexities of our relationships and strive towards healing and reconciliation. Embrace the challenge of honoring your mother, even in the face of adversity, and trust in God's plan for restoration and redemption.
Mother's Day is an extra special day for us to recognize the incredible influence that these women have had on our lives and to show our deep appreciation for their constant love and support. It's a time to honor the amazing mothers, grandmothers, and mentors who have played a significant role in shaping us into the people we are today. Let's take a moment every day, to celebrate the boundless love and selflessness that defines motherhood.
Take Care,
Mark
